Evaluation of using laser fluorescence technique with Methylen Blue Dye in Detection of Enamel and Dentin Cracks of Dental Crown
Abstract
Dental cracks in mineralized structures (Enamel and Dentin) are one of complicated aspects in operative dentistry. Considering Limitations in diagnosis of such cracks in clinical situations reveals the need of further studies to find new techniques and technologies in this regard. In present study laser fluorescence technique via using Diagnodent device was studied as a new method of detecting dental and enamel cracks painted with methylene blue dye. Methods and materials: In 20 extracted sound third molar teeth , several dentinal and enamel cracks were provided using Instron Device and special isolated cracks of the teeth selected and their width were measured by stereomicroscope device. After painting of these cracks using methylene blue dye, Diagnodent value of each selected and painted crack was measured and then these values and the values of sound enamel and dentin surfaces were analyzed statistically. Results: Mean value of enamel cracks was 18.42 while this number was 1.5 in sound enamel surface. Mean value of dentin cracks was 28.5 and the mean value for sound dentin was 28.5. (p<0.01). There was a significant correlation between cracks width and Diagnodent values of painted cracks both in enamel and dentin. Conclusion: According to the findings of this study Diagnodent would be used a clinical device for detection of enamel and dentinal cracks of sound teeth crowns.
