Evaluation of treatment needs of patients attended to Tabriz dental school in fall 2009
Abstract
Evaluating dental needs is the basis of planning dental services and treatment. Dental schools have an important role in diagnosing the actual needs, educating students, treating patients and conducting studies in different hygienic therapeutic needs of patients attending Tabriz dental school in from Sep 2005 to Apr 2006 in the present study. Materials and methods: This was a descriptive cross sectional study in which 330 files of patients who had attended Tabriz dental school from cocran formal sampling were selected randomly. the desired data were extracted from the files and recorded in a questionnaire designed earlier. the data were analyzed using SPSS software. Results: The highest dental need was recorded for restorative (60/9%) and root canal therapy (59/39%) treatments. Most of the attandants were students and housewives between 21 to 30 years of age. The main chief complaint of patients was tooth pain and the most common systemic disease was coronary artery. the relation between dental needs of patients and their sex, job, age and was statistically significant. however, there was not a significant relation between dental needs and place of residency. Conclusion: the chief complaint of patients in first place, was tooth-ache, then it was consisted of problem due to dental caries and periodontal disease including bleeding gingival, tooth mobility and scaling. They were in accordance with the distribution frequency of treatment needs diagnosed.
