Evaluation of the knowledge, attitude and practice of the Urmia general dentists about oral tumoral and tumor like lesions in 2010
Abstract
Most oral cancers re diagnosis at late stages. Since dentists play a critical role in early detection of oral cancers. They should be knowledge and skillful in oral cancer diagnosis . Evaluation of the knowledge, Attitude and practice of the Urmia General Dentists about oral tumoral and tumor like lesions in 2010. Materal and Methods: This descriptive cross- sectional study was done on 150 general dentists who had private offices in Uromia in 2010. A questiomaire including demographic information and question regarding oral cancer was prepared . The questionnaires were delivered to dentists at their offices and then gathered . The data were analyzed via SPSS software by student s test, pearson correlation coefificients. Results: There were 114 male and 36 female dentists with the mean age of 42.35 years. The mean score of knowledge was 4.91 and 5.16 for males and females respectively. There was no significant difference between them . Ninety percent of dentists donEt examination patients for oral cancer. conclusion: Knowledge of dentists in Uromia about oral cancer was not sufficient. So application of strategies to increase the knowledge of dentists regarding oral cancer is necessary.
