Evaluation of the knowledge of parents of children referring to Tabriz dental faculty's on importance of primary teeth in children under 6 years old in 2010
Abstract
Primary teeth play a critical role in physical and psychological health of a child. Since there is a relationship between parents co-operation and knowledge about primary teeth, this study was aimed to evaluate the knowledge of under 6 year-old childrens parents on the importance of primary teeth. Materials & Methods: 161 parents of under 6 year-old children who reffred to pediatric department of Tabriz dental school wrer selected randomly during a 6-month interval. After questionnaire designing and its validity and reliability confirmation, it was filled out by parents. The collected data was analysed using descriptive statistics and chi-square test by Spss16 statistical software at the significany level of P<0.05. Results: The mean knowledge level of participatet parents toward importance of primary teeth was 5.807 with the standard deviation of 2.73. Minimum and maximum knowledge level was 0 and 10, respectively. Chi-square analysis revealed that there is a direct relationship between parents knowledge level and their educational level (P<0.001). Conclusions: The mean knowledge level of participating parents about the importance of primary teeth was at moderate level. There was a direct relationship between parents knowledge level and their educationa.
