Evaluation of the accuracy of dimensional measurement of the mandible on panoramic radiographs made with standard and improved magnification techniques
Abstract
Ortopantomography is a most common technique with widely application that use for oral a face evaluation that had a single image that imaging superior and inferior jaws with temporal joints. The aim of this study is determine the accuracy of dimensional measurement of the mandible on panoramic radiographs made with standard and improved magnification techniques. Methods: In a cross sectional and analytical study that performed on panoramic imaging with standard and improved magnification techniques, the accuracy of dimensional measurement of the mandible on panoramic radiographs made with standard and improved magnification techniques evaluated. Results and conclusion: True size of used marker vertical dimension was 12 mm and horizontal dimension was 2.9 mm. Mean of vertical dimension of marker in standard panoramic radiography was 15.62 0.12 mm. Mean of horizontal dimension of marker in standard panoramic radiography was 3.74 0.08 mm. Mean of vertical dimension of marker in improved magnification panoramic radiography was 18.27 1.04 mm. Mean of horizontal dimension of marker in improved magnification panoramic radiography was 4.33 0.30 mm. Significant difference between mean of vertical dimension of marker in standard panoramic radiography in compare with true size(P<0.001). Significant difference between mean of horizontal dimension of marker in standard panoramic radiography in compare with true size (P<0.001). Significant difference between mean of vertical dimension of marker in improved magnification panoramic radiography in compare with true size (P<0.001). Significant difference between mean of horizontal dimension of marker in improved magnification panoramic radiography in compare with true size (P<0.001). Significant difference between mean of vertical dimension of marker in improved magnification panoramic radiography in compare with vertical dimension of marker in standard panoramic radiography (P<0.001). Significant difference between mean of horizontal dimension of marker in improved magnification panoramic radiography in compare with horizontal dimension of marker in standard panoramic radiography (P<0.001).
