Evaluation of oral health knowledge of women before pregnancy attending Tabriz Asad Abadi hospital in 1391
Abstract
Pregnancy is a natural process which may create some changes in different parts of body, such as oral and dental systems. The changes might lead to oral diseases if sufficient and permanent care is not provided. For example, improper nutrition, covert oral and dental problems can affect the health of dental organ and even the other parts of body. Therefore, the aim of the study was to evaluate oral health knowledge of women before pregnancy attending Tabriz Asad Abadi hospital in 1391. Methods: To determine the knowledge level, 292 women reffering Tabriz Asad Abadi hospital were selected randomly and the pre-prepared questioaire was filled out by them. The knowledge level was calculated according to correct answers and reported descriptively using mean and standard deviation. Results: ANOVA analysis revealed that there was a significant difference in the women knowledge level regarding their educational level and age category (P<0.05). T-test showed that the women knowledge differ according to their occupational status (P<0.05). Individuals with higher educational level, 26-30 years old, and employees had the higher knowledge level. Conclusions: based on the findings of this study, the oral health knowledge of women before pregnancy attending Tabriz Asad Abadi hospital was in moderate level.
