Evaluation of Levels of Interleukin-23 in sera of pemphigus Volgaris patients
Abstract
Pemphigus vulgaris is a chronic muco-cutaneus disease and most prevalent type of pemphigus which manifestes with development of bula and erosion in skin and mocosal membranes. Regarding the importance of pemphigus disease as a life-threatining autoimmune disease and its raising prevalence in recent years, and since its ethiology has been not distinguished yet, therefore this study was aimed to evaluate the potential role of IL-23 in pemphigus vulgaris. Methods and materials: In this descriptive - analytical study, 18 patients with pemphigus vulgaris and 18 healthy individuals were selected according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. Measurment of IL-23 serum level in blood samples were conducted by ELISA method. Collected data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and student t-test was used for comparasion of IL-23 level among two groups. P<0/05 was considered statistically significant in this study. Results: Mean serum levels of IL-23 in patients with pemphigus and healthy control were 25.1 +- 4.2 and 17.9+-4.7 , respectively. Student t-test revealed that serum levels of IL-23 were higher in pemphigus striken patients(P<0.05). Conclusion: Based on the findings of this study, serum levels of IL-23 were higher in pemphigus striken patients in comparison to healthy individuals.
