Evaluation of Knowledge , and practice of mothers attending to Tabriz dental school about the effects of fluoride on teeth and the ways of getting fluoride in 2012

Abstract
Introduction and Objectives: The use of fluoride in caries prevention and control, has been proven as a safe and high performance method. Systemic use of fluoride to prevent tooth decay has been proposed as an important way. In this study, Knowledge and practice of mothers in the 1391 to examine the teeth of their children had been referred to the Department of Dentistry, Tabriz University of Medical Sciences. The effects were assessed of fluoride and fluoride intake. In this cross - sectional study, after determining the sample size of 250 mothers from their children since September to December for a pediatric dentist could randomly selected method. Methods: In this study, the researcher made questionnaire package was used. To assess the validity of the questionnaire was given to 9 patients. Five faculty members (pediatric dental specialist) and two normal individuals and 2 patients presented with statistics, expert opinions, he was the final questionnaire. Cronbach's alpha was used to determine reliability. Data were analyzed using statistical software spss18 methods, descriptive and inferential statistics. To evaluate the relationship between independent variables (demographic) and dependent variables was used ANOVA and Pearson correlation test. Results: Our results show that mothers' knowledge of the effects of fluoride, but their performance was low average. Correlation test showed a significant inverse correlation between age and performance, and there are mothers. Based on the knowledge and practice of mothers' education level, employment status, income level and number of siblings were significantly different. Conclusions: Since most children's oral health is the responsibility of the mother, therefore, it is important to raise awareness and develop educational programs for women in this field are considered as a major requirement.
