Abstract
Introduction: The first step in successfully treating each lesion is its correct diagnosis. Clinical findings and radiographs can help clinician to diagnose lesions. Precise exploring the radiographs of a lesion can also have a great role in later diagnosis and treatments. The purpose of this study was to determine the relevane between radiographic and histopathologic diagnosis of jaw bone lesions for the first one at Tabriz dental school. Materials and methods: Data from patients who referred to Pathology Department at Tabriz University of Medical Sciences from 1385 to 1390 were gathered and were evaluated by their age, sexuality, location of the lesion, The first and secend radiographic diagnosis and final microscopic diagnosis. Data were analyzed by description statistic methods using SPSS 15 software. Results: The evaluation of the consistency rate of radiographic and histopathologic diagnosis showed that in 71.74% of cases there were accordance in diagnosis and 28.26% of cases discordance were seen.. Chi-square test showed a statistically significant in frequency of accordance in diagnosis and discordance. The greatest consistency between radiographic and histopathologic diagnosis were seen in the inflammatory periapical lesions( 89.5%) and odontogenic cyst (77.3% )and the least accordance in diagnosis were seen in nonodontogenic tumor. Conclusion: According to the results of this study , we can say that the diagnostic value of radiogeraphic diagnosis of the lesions of jaws are at good level but radiographic results alone are not enough for diagnosis of the lesion , so the histophatologic evaluation for diagnosis of lesions are suggested
