Abstract
Due to the possibility of enzymatic reactions between MMPs available in the dentin and specific inhibitors of MMPs, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of various concentrations of galardin on the shear bond strength of self adhesive resin cements to dentin. Materials and methods : A total of 48 healthy human premolars were mounted in self-cured acrylic after removing the buccal and lingual surface enamel. Dentin surfaces obtained were ground with 600 Grit silicon carbide paper. Then the samples were divided into 3 groups of 16, based on galardin concentration : without using galardin, high and low concentration. A total of resin 96 composite blocks measuring 3mm diametere and 3mm on height were prepared. Composite resin blockes were bonded to the tooth surfaces using cements (RelyX Unicem & Speed CEM ) according to the manufacture??s instructions. After 24 hours in distilled water at a temperature of 37C, shear bond strength was measured in MPa and failure modes of the speciments were determined under a stereomicroscope. Data were analyzed using two -way variance ANOVA and Bonferroni test. Results: The results showed that the effect of different concentrations of galardin (P<0.001) and also the effect of self adhesive resin cements (P<0.001) were significant and thecumulation effect of between galardin and cements on the shear bond strength to dentin was significant too (P=0.001). Conclusion: Washing dentin with galardin increased shear bond strength of self-adhesive resin cements and this increase had a direct relationships with galardin concentrations in the solution. The mean of shear bond strength of Rely X Unicem was more than that of Speed CEM.
