Effect of preoperative administration of Novafen in pain relief after periodental surgeries

Abstract

Pain is a common complication after oral cavity surgeries. Different drugs have been introduced for pain relief. Novafen is new drug combination, which is formed combination of acetaminophen, ibuprofen and caffeine, and in recent years has been entered the country's pharmaceutical market. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of preoperative administration of Novafen in pain relief after periodontal surgery. Materials & Methods: The target population of this study are patients who are Candidate for crown lengthening surgery and 70 patients of them will be selected. The patients divided into two groups randomly. In one group Novafen and in the other group Placebo was administrated. Pain severity of patients recorded 30 minutes, 1 and 3 hours after surgery by VAS (visual analgesic scale) scale and one, two and three days later by VRS (verbal rating scale) scale.The collected data was analysed using Spss 21 software. Results: The results of this study showed that half, one and three hours after surgery, the mean pain severity according to VAS scale in the first group (Novafen) was 11/0 71/2, 06/0 74/2 and 12/0 6 / 3 and in the second group (placebo) was 31/0 74/2, 26/0 02/3 and 17/0 71/3, respectively. Also one, two and three days after surgery, mean pain severity according to VRS scale in the first group (Novafen) 28/0 94/2, 76/0 51/2 and 12/0 2/2 and the second group (placebo) 18/0 2/3, 36/0 65/2 and 22/0 34/2 was reported.(P>0.05). Conclusions: Administration of Novafen before periodontal surgery, Reduced postoperative pain.
