Abstract
Trichomonas tenax is one of Protozoa and fungi of the oral cavity in human that found in patients with poor oral hygiene and advanced periodontal disease. The aim of this study is evaluation effect of periodontal phase I therapy on Trichomonas Tenax frequency in periodontal lesions of Patients referring to periodontics ward of Tabriz dentistry faculty in 1387-88.(A molecular study). Methods: In interventional and Cross Over study that performed on patients with periodontal disease referring to periodontics ward of Tabriz dentistry Faculty in 1387-88, effect of periodontal phase I therapy on Trichomonas Tenax frequency in periodontal lesions of Patients referring to periodontics ward of Tabriz dentistry faculty evaluated. Results: 38 of patients were male and 22 of them were female. Mean age of male patients was 31.09 8.48 year and mean age of female patients was 28.47 10.68(P=0.587).14(23.3%) of patients had Trichomonas tenax before periodontal phase I therapy. 6(10%) of patients had Trichomonas tenax after periodontal phase I therapy. 14(11 male and 3 female) of patients had Trichomonas tenax before periodontal phase I therapy. 6(4 male and 2 female) of patients had Trichomonas tenax after periodontal phaseI therapy. Conclusions: Results of other studies and our study representative that frequency of Trichomonas tenax in oral lesions was different in several populations. Use of periodontal phase I therapy due to decrease frequency of Trichomonas tenax in oral lesions in patients with periodontal diseases.
