Effect of different mixing methods on the bacterial leakage of white portland cement, and CEM cement (calcium enriched mixture) used as root-end filling material
Abstract
CEM(calcium Enriched Mixture), PC(Portland Cement) are used for Retrofilling direct pulp capping, repair of furcation perforations and apexification. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of different methods of mixing (conventional, Amalgamator, Ultrasonic) on the bacterial leakage of White Portland Cement and CEM used as root-end filling materials Materials and Methods: 85-single-rooted human teeth were selected. then the teeth were decornated at the cement-enamel junction with a separating disc.following canal preparation, the teeth were divided into 5 groups 15 teeth each. 3 group for CEM (Calcium Enriched Mixture) and 2 group for PC ( Portland Cement). In Cem cement group specimens mixed by 3 type of mixing 1)conventional 2)ultrasonic 3)amalgamator and in PC group specimens mixed by 2type of mixing 1)conventional 2)ultrasonic, and then fixed on retrograde cavities. Then the teeth were placed in the ruber eppendrof tubes and inserted in glassy flask full of BHI liquids 2 mm of specimens inserted in the BHI liquids . Changing the colour of BHI was the evidence of bacterial Leakage. Result : Based on the results at this n vitro study, different mixing techniques affected the micro leakage of the two materials , in relation to CEM cement ,the maximum and minimum sealing ability was abgerred with the ultrasonic and manual mixing techniques respectability .However in relation to the Portland cement micro leakage was higher with the manual technique compared to mixed with the ultrasonic technique.
