Abstract
Microbial contamination of operatory surfeces after dental treatment can cause croos infection. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the microbial contamination of dental unit chairs of Tabriz dental school at 2010. Materials & Methods: In this study, the samples were taken from unit control panel, air-water spray, and lamp handle of 48 active units in endodontics, periodontics, operative, and pediatric departments of Tabriz dental school. After culture, the coloni count and bacterial species were reported. Results: From 48 samples, 37 (77.15%) and 11 (22/9%) instances were negative and positive, respectively. Among 11 positive samples, 9 (81.8%) and 2 (18.2%) instances were staphulococcus and streptococcus, respectively. X2 analysis assessment revealed that the difference in bacterial contamination between evaluated departments was not statistically significant. Conclusions: Microbial contamination of operatory dental unit chair surfaces are unavoidable.
