Demographic evaluation of oral malignancies in patients referred to pathology department of Tabriz Emam Khomeiny and Ghazi Tabatabaee hospital in the last decade (1999-2009)

Abstract
In spite recent progress is cancer treatment, the oral cancer is still ont of most common causes of death, because of late diagnosis and varied clinical presentation. Considering the fact that cultural and geographical role in oral cancer prevalence, epidemiological study is necessary. The aim of this research is to determine the pvevalence of orofacial malignancies of Tabriz dental school. Matherials and methods: A descriptive and retrospective study was done using medical file (document) of patients, whose malignancy were histopthologically confirmed). We ve used SPSS software to analyse data and drawing table and charts. Results: Squamous Cell carcinoma was the most common malignancy (79%) followed by muci epidarmoid carcinoma (8%). male to female ration was 2.46 to 1 and age average was 57.7317.54. and 61.29 16.54 for women and man respectively. and tongue was the most common site (30%) followed by lip (28%). Conclusion: Atthough epidemiological pattern of oral SCC was similar to other studies .
