Abstract
The malignant tumors of mouth are the 11th more common in the world, the most common type is oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). It is usual among the middle aged to the elderly but it has been recently increased among the youth. Aim: The purpose of this survey is to clarify Correlation of age with some of clinical and pathologic characteristics of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) in samples related to Pathology Department of Dental School and Imam Reza Medical Research & Training Hospital, Tabriz, between years 1388 E 1392 (SH). Methods and materials:The survey was cross-sectional descriptive-analysis. All files available in Pathology Department of Dental School and Imam Reza Medical Research & Training Hospital, Tabriz were completely studied statistically from the beginning of the year 88 to the end of 92 (SH) and the patients stricken by oral SCC were separated. The investigated alternatives included age, gender, the patientEs occupation, the location of tumor, the consumption of drugs through smoking or injection, the patientEs residence, and the pathologic grade of tumor. Then the patients were divided into two groups of 45 years old or younger and over 45. They were compared according to the registered alternatives and the final results were investigated statistically.The findings of the survey were studied and analyzed throughout the descriptive statistic approaches and CChi-squaredE formula test using statistic software SPSS.16. Result: Among 52 patients stricken by OSCC, 6 people (%11.5) were found in 45 years old or younger and 46 people (%88.5) in the group of over 45. No significant differences were observed in both age groups. The commonest location of tumor was tongue and among the age group of over 45 years old, most patients were farmers or housewives and a great deal in the age group of 45 or younger were housewives. Meanwhile more patients in the age group of over 45 and all patients of the age group of 45 or younger lived in cities. Concerning microscopic grid and tobacco (drug) consumption, no outstanding differences were found in both groups. Conclusion:Oral squamous cell carcinoma is more common among the elderly and it is not associated with specific gender, but there is a meaningful connection among the patientsE age, occupation, and their residence
