Comparison of pain intensity of anterior middle superior alveolar injection technique and infiltration anesthetic technique in flap periodontal surgery in maxilla
Abstract
The aim of this study is to compare the pain intensity of anterior middle superior alveolar injection technique and infiltraition anesthetic technique in flap periodontal surgery in maxilla. Method and marerial: In this study 20 patients who where 20-40 years where selected. Either side of the maxilla was randomly selected for AMSA injection; the other side was left as a control. For one side, 1.8 mL of 2% lidocaine solution with 1/80,000 epinephrine was injected on a point that bisects the maxillary first and second premolars and is midway between the crest of the free gingival margin and the midpalatine suture, other side anesthetized with the traditional technique. Injections were administered via conventional syringe with a 27-gauge needle. visual analogue scale (VAS) was applied for measurement of puncture, insertion, and injection pain. Results:there was not significant difference between pain intensity while injection of amsa injection and infiltration technique .p=0.857. there was significant difference between pain intensity of post surgery of amsa injection and infiltration technique.p=0.024 . Conculsion: pain intensity of post surgery of AMSA is lower than infiltration techniques on this technique because of its other advantages is recommended for anesthetic of palatal tissue in periodontal surgery.
