Comparison of dental caries rate in down syndrome with normal child
Abstract
Down syndrome , trisomy of human chromosome21, is the most common gentic cause of intellectual disability . oral findings in down syndrome include mouth breathing , open bite, fissured lips and tongue , delayed eruption, low level of caries Material and methods: statistic population include Twenty children with down syndrome , 5-14 year-old who were studying in a school for backwarded child and Sixty normal child who were studying in ordinary schools that were selected randomly. The teeth were examined by sond No.17 and dentistry flat mirror under enough light and optic fiber . The data were collected using Designed questionnaires which has recorded at appendix part . The data were statistically analysed and examined by descriptive statistical methods. Results: According to persent data the mean dmft for down syndrome group was 1.25 1.12 and normal group was 5.67 2.76.(p<0.001) the mean dmfs for down syndrome group was 22.42 and normal group was 12.90 9.36.(p<0.001) DMFT for down syndrome group was 1.35 1.66 and normal group was 2.32 1.68. (p=0.029) The mean DMFS for down syndrome group was 1.50 2.23 and normal group was 2.68 2.46 .(p=0.03). Conclusion: The low score of dmft , DMFT, dmfs , DMFS in the both dental syndrome in down syndrome child indicates low level of caries in down syndrome child than normal child .
