Abstract
Nowadays, dental implant is considered to be a suitable substitute for the missed teeth. The increasing use of dental implants results in diseases surrounding implanted areas. The Peri-implantitis process includes a type of swelling resulting from losing bones surrounding the implants and bleeding. One of the main factors causing peri-implantitis is a process in which bacteria, Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, are involved around the implanted area. Given that in recent years drug resistance against micro-organisms comes out, in this study, the effects of antibacterial in garlic essence (Allium sativum) and ziziphora clinopodioides on Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa were compared. Method and material: In this experimental study, the different dilution of aqueous and methanol extract of the garlic and the essence of ziziphora clinopodioides were provided. Therefore, their effect on the one standard strain of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, two standard strain of Staphylococcus aureus(ATCC 822, ATCC 25923) and nine strains of each were investigated by Disk Diffusion method. Moreover, standard antibiotic, Vancomycin, is used to control Staphylococcus aureus and Nalidixic acid is used to control Pseudomonas aeruginosa in all strains. Using statistical analysis (SPSS), the obtained data in the study were analyzed. Finding: The result showed that the essence of ziziphora clinopodioides acted as an antibacterial one against the Staphylcoccus aureus bacteria. However, Pseudomonas aeruginosa was resistant to the essence. Aqueous and methanol extracts of garlic did not show any antibacterial effect. Also, using the essence of ziziphora clinopodioides, the diameters of the zones of bacterial growth in comparison to antibiogram disks was great. Conclusion: It is concluded that the essence of ziziphora clinopodioides has an acceptable and striking effect on Staphylcoccus aureus. However, the effect was not considerable in , Pseudomonas aeruginosa. So, the essence of ziziphora clinopodioides can play a role of antibacterial material or it can be useful in treating the infections including those resulting from Staphylcoccus aureus. .
