Comparison of the value of diagnostic of Spiral computed tomography comparing with Cone Beam computed tomography in diagnostic of foreign body
Abstract
Background and aims: Foreign bodies usually enter to the head and neck area due to trauma or medical interventions. Determination of the exact position of the foreign body is very important. The imaging techniques which is used for foreign body detection, include plain radiography, Xeroradiography, CT scan, MRI and Ultrasonography. In this study, we compared the CBCT with CT scan. Materials and methods: The different foreign bodies in the three maxillofacial spaces and different sizes scanned with two CBCT machines and Spiral CT. Results: teeth, metal, stone and glass foreign bodies was seen clearly in CT and New Tom apparatus at the smallest size in air. Foreign Bodies with 0.5 millimeter, made of metal, stone and glass, graphite and teeth were observed in all three devices in Muscle tissue . Conclusion: New Tom CBCT and Planmeca CBCT is an appropriate tools for detecting the foreign bodies with relative high density
