Comparision of salivary IL-6 midterm and during final exam among Tabriz dental students-1392

Abstract

The aim of this study was to compare salivary Interleukin-6 (IL-6) levels in midterm and during final exam among dentistry students of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences in 2012-2013. Materials and methods: 80 randomly selected dentistry students of University of Medical Sciences enrolled in this study. Holmes and Rahe questionnaire were used to evaluate stress scores of these students. Scores higher than 200, were excluded because of being susceptible to psychological disorders related to stress. Saliva samples of reminding 40 students were taken in the middle of term and, at the day of the exams; 16 (39%) male and 25 (61%) female. Salivary IL-6 was assessed by ELISA method using anti-IL-6 monoclonal antibodies. Descriptive statistics methods, t-test and WilcaxonEs test, were used to analyze the data. P<0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The average age of volunteers was 22.731.30 and 18 (43.9%) were non-native. Chi-square analysis showed no significant relationship between gender and residency condition. Data analysis showed significant difference between saliva IL-6 levels on the mid-term and the day of final exam (P =0.01).
