Comparing status of periapical tissues in posterior teeth basis of quality of root canal treatment and type of coronal restoration

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relationship between the quality of root canal filling and type of permanent coronal restorations and their association with the periapical status. Method and materials: There were 500 endodontically treated teeth from 150 panoramic radiographs that were evaluated. Teeth were classified according to the type of restorations. The quality of root canal fillings were evaluated according to the tronstad criteria. Apical status was assessed by the periapical index scores (PAI). Coronal restorations are classified to filling with post, filling without post, crown with post and crown without post. Chi square test was used for statistical analysis. Results: There were 48.2 % of endodentically analysis treated teeth that showed healthy periapex. Teeth with good endodontic treatment showed statistically significant high health periapex rates regardless of the type of the restoration. Conclusions: It can be concluded that the quality of toot canal filling plays a key role in outcome of endodentic therapy regardless of the type of restoration.
