Association between BMI and DMFT among 12 years old orumia town girls
Abstract
Tooth decay is one of the major health problems in our country that Imposes a lot of financial losses for individuals and governments . The role of obesity has been indicated in many diseases . It seems that weight gain and obesity in all ages, especially children , associated with dental caries . The purpose of this study was to evaluate the association between BMI and DMFT among 12-year-old girls in Urmia. Materials and methods : In a cross-sectional study that conducted on 351 of 12-year-old girls in Urmia .The relationship between BMI and DMFT were examined . After obtaining the consent of office of education , School administrators and parents , DMFT and BMI was calculated for each child and by using appropriate statistical tests The relationship between these two cases were investigated. Results : The mean DMFT was 2.85 1.7 for the students and The mean BMI of the students was 3.54 18.77 . Using Pearson correlation test showed no significant correlation between BMI and DMFT. ( Pearson= 0.050 , P=0/354) Conclusion : Based on the findings of this study Between increased BMI and DMFT in 12-year-old girls Urmia there was no significant relationship.
