Assessing health-related quality of life after surgical removal of mandibular impacted third molar

Abstract
Surgical removal of the mandibular third molars is one of the most commonly performed dentoalveolar procedures in oral and maxillofacial surgery. The surgical procedure can lead to postoperative complications and discomfort. This operation causes severe deterioration in a patients quality of life. Objective : Purpose of this study is to assess the effect of mandibular impacted third molar surgery on a quality of life outcomes. Methods: in this analytical descriptive study a questionnaire including 16 questions were complated by a total of 55 patients who volunteered for the surgery of mandibular third molar. Questionnaires delivered to patients after surgery on the same day and week later when they returned for suture remove. datas were analyzed by T test and 2 test with SPSS15 . Results : In this study, assessed 55 patients (43/6%male and 56/4%of females) with age range 18 to 35( mean26) . Pain after surgery was reported to be feeled mostly in the first four days (39 % ) . Patients were anable to work in first two days (43.1 %) . Conclusion: The results indicate reduced quality of life for patients in first 4 days after surgery (especially in the first and second days) that, after sixth day Returning to normal life .
