Accuracy of clinical diagnosis of oral lesions by using histopathology reports in patients referred to oral pathology department of Tabriz dental school during 1386-1388
Abstract
Oral lesion diagnosis was perfomed by adequate knowledge and skill with cooperation of anoher specialist chiefly oral pathologist. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the concordance between clinical diagnosis and pathology report of patients referring to department of oral medicine of Tabriz dental school. Materials and Method: In this descriptive retrospective study, personal information and lesion characteristics of 186 patients who had been referred to the department of oral pathology for biopsy during the 1386-1388 were collocted. Data were analyzed by using descriptional statistical tests and T- test and in SPSS/13. Results: 72% of the clinical diagnosis were confirmed with pathology reports. The greatest concordance was observed for vestibule mucosa lesion and cases higher the 60 years old. Whereas gingival lesion and cases lower the 20 years old reveated the lowest concordatce . Conclusion: Although a great concordance was observed between clinical diagnosis and pathology report, the inconcordance was significant and establishing strategies for minimizing it, is necessitated.
