dc.description.abstract | The etiology of intrauterine fetal death (IUFD) in Tabriz, and generally in the country, remains inadequately investigated, lacking a comprehensive evaluation of its multifaceted causes. To address this gap, we conducted a study aiming to investigate the risk factors influencing IUFD over the past ten years at Al-Zahrai Hospital in Tabriz.
Methods: This retrospective analytical cross-sectional study utilized questionnaires to extract relevant information from the records at Tabriz Alzahra Hospital between 2012 to 2022 (10 years). The collected data encompassed demographic factors (mother's age, ethnicity), fetal factors (gender, weight, age, abnormalities, and multiples), and maternal factors (diseases, blood group, parity, history of intrauterine death, pregnancy, and childbirth complications).
Results: The study revealed that the average age of participating mothers was 28.97±6.54 years. Notably, the body mass index and fetal weight exhibited values of 27.18 ± 4.61 and 1428.31 ± 918.11 grams, respectively. Furthermore, the gestational age and age of intrauterine death were determined to be 30.89±4.28 weeks and 27.86±5.04 weeks, respectively. In terms of maternal health history, diabetes was present in 19 patients, blood pressure issues in 14 patients, gestational hypertension in 44 patients, and hypothyroidism in 55 patients. The highest prevalence of blood group among the mothers was associated with blood group A+, while the lowest incidence was linked to blood group AB-. Additional complications included bleeding during the second trimester in two participants, assisted reproductive method-assisted pregnancies in one participant, a history of repeated abortion in 12 patients, and thromboembolism history in one patient. Abnormal births were reported in one case, and cholestasis pregnancy was observed in non of them. oligohydramnios cases were sixteenth times more prevalent than polyhydraamnios cases. Ultrasound results indicated fetal problems in 127 patients, fundal placenta position in 358 participants, and placenta previa in 6 cases. Umbilical cord complications, including wrapping around the neck or body of the fetus, were noted in 12 patients. Additional complications included labor pain in 22 patients, discharge in 10 cases, bleeding in7 cases, and decreased fetal movements in 195 participants. | en_US |
