Abstract Introduction: Geltamps are biodegradable materials that can help blood clotting in the surgical site and quick repair of the dental surgery site. The aim of this study was to investigate the amount of bleed conroling effects in a surgical hemostat sponge containing aloe vera nanoparticles after extraction of the first and second molars of the mandible (compared to the commercial gel stamp (HemospongDenmark)) in patients referred to the surgery department of the Faculty of Dentistry in Tabriz. Materials and Methods: A double-blind split-mouth clinical trial study was conducted on 30 patients referred to the surgery department of the Faculty of Dentistry in Tabriz with the indication of extraction of two mandibular molar teeth and meeting the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the study. In each patient, after tooth extraction, a gelatin sponge was randomly placed in the dental cavity for dressing, then a sterile gauze was placed on it (test group). And for the control group, a commercial gel foam (SPONGOSTAN -Denmark) was placed in the dental cavity for dressing, then a sterile gauze was placed on it. The conditions of tooth extraction, surgeon, equipment and surgical technique were the same for all patients. In the studied groups, the sterile gauze was changed every 15 minutes until the bleeding stopped completely. The number of replaced sterile gauze and their total weight were recorded. The amount of excess blood absorbed in sterile gauze was also measured with a precise digital scale. The amount of bleeding was recorded after the removal of anesthesia (within 1-4 hours after tooth extraction) and the amount of uncontrollable bleeding after 4 hours was considered as active bleeding. Data were analyzed by SPSS version 19 software and statistical tests. A probability value of less than 5 percent was considered as a significant level. Results: The results showed that there was no significant difference in the number of sterile gauze in the two groups, and in both groups, consumption of three sterile gauze was the most frequent. The results showed that the average weight of blood absorbed by sterile gauze in the control group was (8.63±1.62 grams) and in the test group (6.7±1.4 grams), that is, the bleeding control was better for the test group than the control group (p<0.05). Examination of the patients showed that in none of the patients of the two groups, bleeding was observed after tooth extraction in one hour and 4 hours. Conclusion: The performance of the new gelatin sponge containing aloe vera was better than the commercial gel tamp (SPONGOSTAN -Denmark) in controlling bleeding after tooth extractionen_US
