Comparison of low power Nd-YAG laser, Myrtus communis extract, and Triadent ointment in the treatment of patients with minor and major aphthous ulcers referred to the Tabriz Faculty of Dentistry

Abstract

Recurrent aphthous stomatitis is one of the most common oral diseases. Various symptomatic treatments have been proposed for this disease, which in some cases are associated with numerous side effects. Since none of the treatments can affect the cause of the disease, efforts are made to reduce the size and symptoms of these ulcers, as the aim of the treatments is to reduce the intensity of pain and burning and shorten the duration of the ulcer. Given the recurrent nature of the disease, long-term use of chemical drugs can lead to numerous side effects. On the other hand, medicine has now turned to herbal and traditional remedies. Given the contradictory studies conducted in this field, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of laser, myrtus communis and Triadent ointment in the treatment of minor and major aphthous ulcers.
