Avascular necrosis (AVN) is a serious bone complication that can occur after kidney transplantation. Interleukin 17 (IL-17) is a pro-inflammatory cytokine that plays a role in the immune response after allograft transplantation. Various studies have shown that the level of IL-17 is significantly increased in patients with AVN. In this study, the IL-17 polymorphism in patients with avascular necrosis after kidney transplantation was investigated. Methods: Blood samples were taken from 91 kidney transplant patients and the presence of AVN in symptomatic patients was determined by appropriate diagnostic methods. DNA was then isolated from whole blood and some DNA was loaded on agarose gel and spectrophotometry was used. Then, using designed primers, PCR steps were performed in a thermal cycler. Results: GG genotype was found in 14 patients (87.5%) with AVN and in the group without AVN, this genotype was found in 69 patients (83.2%). AG genotype was also found in 9 patients without AVN and 2 patients with AVN. AA genotype was not found in any of the patients with AVN, and on the other hand, 5 patients with AVN had this genotype (P=0.772). As a result, there was no significant relationship between IL-17 polymorphism genotype (rs2275913) and AVN in kidney transplant patients.en_US
