Determinants of oral hygiene indicators in AZAR cohort population

Abstract
Dental caries can have serious impacts on individuals’ overall health and quality of life. This study aims to investigate the relationship between these determinants and oral health indicators in the Azar cohort population. Methods: This is a cross-sectional analytical study based on Azar cohort study with 15,006 participants from urban and rural areas of Shabestar, aged between 35 and 70 years. Variables include gender, age, marital status, living situation, BMI, literacy tooth brushing frequency, DMFT index, use of dental floss, mouthwash, WSI and smoking. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 22, and the accepted level of significance is below 0.05. Results: The oral hygiene habits decreases with age and increases with DMFT. Living situation significantly affects the performance of hygiene habits. People who do not brush their teeth or use dental floss and mouthwash have significantly higher DMFT.
