Oligoasthenoteratozoospermia is one of the most common causes of infertility in men, which is associated with unfavorable changes in sperm count, motility and morphology. The objective of this study was to investigate the therapeutic effect of organic selenium supplementation on sperm profile (number, motility and morphology) and sexual function of men with oligoasthenoteratozoospermia. Methods/Design: The average age of the patients included in the selenium and placebo groups was 37.12 ± 5.25 and 39.12 ± 4.55, respectively. The demographic characteristics of the two groups were similar and only in terms of occupation, the difference between the two groups was evaluated as significant (p=0.027). After adjusting the baseline values, in terms of total sperm count, a significant increase was observed after supplementation compared to the placebo group (30.40 ± 9.24 vs. 25 ± 6.61, p<0.001). In terms of sperm motility, after the intervention, the selenium group was significantly superior to the placebo group (2.91 ± 0.69% vs. 2.51 ± 0.61%) (p=0.018). Regarding the normal morphology of sperms after the intervention, there was a significant difference between the two groups (p=0.041). In terms of sexual desire score, after the intervention, a significant increase was observed in the selenium group with a score of 5.43 ± 1.07 compared to the placebo group with a score of 4.84 ± 1.15 with the control of baseline values (p=0.046). The score related to erection and ejaculation after the intervention by adjusting the baseline values was not significantly different between the two selenium and placebo groups (p<0.05). The scores related to problem assessment areas (p<0.001), overall satisfaction (p<0.001) and overall sexual performance (p=0.010; 32.71 vs. 28.17) after the intervention There was a significant increase (improvement) compared to the placebo group.en_US
