dc.description.abstract | Introduction:
Nurses can only perform a number of responsibilities in one work shift, so they are forced to prioritize nursing care, which can lead to forgetting some care. On the other hand, accurate recording of these very complex care activities takes time and may affect the provision of complete care. Considering that the biggest cause of forgotten care is the heavy workload of nurses, the registration of nurses in the special care department of newborns may increase the workload of nurses and as a result some cares are forgotten.
Therefore, the present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the relationship between missed care and the quality of nursing care from the point of view of nurses in neonatal intensive care units.
Materials and methods:
This study was carried out in a descriptive, correlational and quantitative method on the nurses working in the neonatal intensive care units of Al-Zahra, Mardani Azar and Taleghani hospitals in Tabriz September 22 to February 29, 2022. Data collection tools included the Tubbs-Cooley Missed Care questionnaire and The questionnaire was the quality of nursing report registration. Data analysis was done with descriptive and inferential statistics using SPSS version 26 software.
Findings:
The majority of the studied nurses perform care completely, the most completely forgotten care items were related to "participating parents in caring for the baby" and "teaching parents about home care". The average score of the total quality of nurses' registration was higher than the middle of the range of scores. In examining the relationship between the study variables, the number of 12 cares had a significant relationship with the quality score of nurses' registration (p < 0.05). Among these, three cares - "adherence to the correct principles of drug administration", "carrying out drug orders at the appointed time" and "observance of infection control precautions" had the highest correlation coefficient with the registration quality score (p < 0.00).
Conclusion:
Most of the cares that had a statistically significant relationship with the quality of nursing records were important cares such as involving parents, pain control, oral care, and providing developmental care, which nurses were less responsive to. they had. But the nurses who performed the mentioned care completely, their nursing records were also of higher quality. There was no significant relationship between the care that nurses are more closely monitored by the hospital authorities and the quality of registration. It can be acknowledged that the majority of nurses provide these cares for babies in any condition. | en_US |
