dc.description.abstractConsidering the importance of acromegaly treatment and the lack of studies on its therapeutic relationship with radiotherapy in Iran, we decided to conduct the present study with the aim of comparing the effect of adjuvant treatment with radiotherapy in acromegaly patients. Material and methods: In this retrospective cohort study, the files of all patients who are known cases of acromegaly and have visited the endocrinology clinic of Imam Reza Hospital in the past 15 years were reviewed in full. Patients' tests include IGF-1, growth hormone at zero, minute 60 and minute 120, TSH, Free t4, cortisol, LH, FSH, FBS, BS 2hpp, HBA1c, Calcium, Phosphoru and estrogen in women and testosterone in men and also the results of the bone density examination of the patients were recorded. Patients were examined in two dependent and independent sections, and in the independent subgroup, patients were divided into two groups treated with radiotherapy and a control group that did not receive radiotherapy. In this part, the results of the tests and the results of the radiotherapy were compared on the tests and bone density in the first group with the second group that did not receive radiotherapy and its statistical significance was reported. In the dependent subgroup, patients were examined before and after radiotherapy. Results: Based on the findings, comparing the results of the tests between the two groups of acromegaly patients studied, at the time of measurement before radiotherapy, there was no significant difference in any of the laboratory factors, except for the GH factor after 120 (P = 0.03). No statistical difference was observed between the two groups (P < 0.05). Changes in Basal GH, GH after 60, GH after 120, IGF1 and Prolactin factors were reported to be statistically significant (P < 0.05) both in the group without radiotherapy and in the group receiving radiotherapy. In all these factors, in both groups of studied patients, there was a decrease in the measurement changes after radiotherapy compared to before. In Basal GH, GH after 60, GH after 120 and IGF1 factors, the rate of decrease in the group receiving radiotherapy was more than the group without radiotherapy, but in the factor Prolactin, the rate of decrease in the group without radiotherapy was more than the group receiving radiotherapy.en_US
