Results: Results revealed statistically significant improvements in dietary intakes of energy, macronutrients, and antioxidants in both groups. Moreover, intra-group analysis at the end of the trial indicated a significant increase in energy, macronutrients, vitamin E, zinc, copper, and selenium intakes; but there was not a significant difference in fiber intakes after adjusting for the baseline values. Furthermore, there was a significant reduction )p=0.02) in serum nitric oxide concentration in the placebo group. After adjusting for baseline values, sex, and energy intake; a significant increase )p=0.02) was found in serum ARE activity in the placebo group. There were no significant inter- and intra- group differences in other studied oxidative stress indices over the trial. Conclusion: Although probiotic supplementation had some beneficial effects on energy and antioxidant nutrient intake, there were no significant changes in markers of oxidative stress.
