Considering that some orthopedic surgeries include major surgeries such as knee and hip replacement, patients need to receive blood during surgery, and as mentioned, some studies refer to the complication of hyperglycemia in receiving blood. It has been shown to affect mortality and morbidity in patients after surgery. The aim of this study was to evaluate the changes in blood sugar of diabetic patients with a history of heart disease receiving blood during orthopedic surgery and to investigate the relationship between them. Materials and Methods: The present study was a descriptive cross-sectional study that was performed after the approval of the ethics committee of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences in Imam Reza Hospital in Tabriz between 2020 and 2022. A total of 150 patients were included in the study and evaluated during the mentioned period. Blood glucose levels were determined before and 20 minutes and 1.5 hours after blood transfusion and the relationship between changes in blood sugar and blood intake was determined. The obtained data were analyzed by SPSS statistical analysis software version 16. Descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, mean ±standard deviation) will be used. Chi-square test was used to compare qualitative variables and t-test was used to compare qualitative quantitative variables. The p-value was considered less than 0.05. Results: Comparison of hemodynamic status before and after receiving blood bags for all patients showed that the hemodynamic status after receiving blood was significantly more stable (P <0.05); On the other hand, changes in blood sugar also indicated that blood transfusion significantly increased blood sugar in patients (P <0.05).en_US
