dc.description.abstract | Prolactin is secreted from the lactotroph cells of the pituitary gland. Biologically, the monomeric form is the most active.. In measurement methods, all forms of prolactin are included in the assay, therefore, the presence of macroprolactin, causes a false increase in prolactin and misdiagnosis of hyperprolactinemia and inappropriate treatments. It seems that if another different method can be used to check macroprolactin, it will be very helpful and useful. The purpose of this study is to investigate the urinary level of prolactin and the relationship between serum levels and its urinary levels in cases of suspected macroprolactinemia and to investigate whether these tests can diagnose macroprolactinemia as a new, non-invasive, available and cheaper tool. ?
Materials and methods:
In this study, patients who referred to Tabriz Imam Rezai Hospital clinic and the plan's office in 1399 and 1400 who had high prolactin and met the inclusion criteria were selected. Blood and urine samples were taken from the patients at the same time and the following tests were performed on them:
Prolactin and creatinine were checked in the urine sample. In the blood sample, creatinine and prolactin were checked, and then after proximity the serum with polyethylene glycol to precipitate macroprolactin, serum prolactin was checked again. The patients were divided into two groups based on the percentage of recovery. The first group of 19 people, who had a recovery of more than 60% and were placed in the hyperprolactinemia group, the second group of 36 people, who had a recovery of less than 60%, who formed the macroprolactinemia group.
Results:
The final participants in this research were 50 people including 10 men and 40 women.
The mean of urinary prolactin in the hyperprolactinemia group is 15.53 ± 43.27 and in the macroprolactinemia group it is 16.27 ± 32.58, and this difference was statistically significant.
The mean (minimum - maximum) variable of urinary prolactin to urinary creatinine ratio is 0.0288 (0.2207 - 0.0201) in hyperprolactinemia group and 0.0225 (0.0019 - 0.0551 - 0.0551) in macroprolactinemia group (p<0.05).
The mean (minimum - maximum) of the ratio of serum prolactin to urinary prolactin in the hyperprolactinemia group is 32.6 (74.5 - 10.9) and in the macroprolactinemia group it is 45.5 (794 - 11.9) in the hyperprolactinemia group (p=0.087). | en_US |
