Palindromic rheumatism is characterized by recurrent and irregular afebrile attacks of arthritis and periarthritis. Given the proven role of IL-23/IL17 axis genes in the pathogenesis of rheumatic diseases and the significant prevalence of palindromic rheumatism and the significant risk of palindromic rheumatism evolution to rheumatoid arthritis, we evaluated IL23/IL17 axis cytokines and gene expression in patients with palindromi rheumatism. Materials and methods: In this case-control study, blood samples were taken from 17 patients referred to Imam Reza Hospital with palindromic rheumatism, 35 patients with rheumatoid arthritis and 38 health controls. Plasma of patients and healthy individuals were isolated and used to measure cytokine levels by ELISA. Statistical analysis was performed by SPSS 16 software and the significance level in this study was considered P<0.05. Results: The results of this study showed that the serum levels of interleukin 17 and interleukin 23 and gene expression levels of these cytokines in the palindromic rheumatism group are significantly higher than rheumatoid arthritis and healthy control groups (P <0.05).en_US
