dc.description.abstractThe malignant lymphomas constitute a group of neoplasms, of varying degrees of malignancy, derived from the basic cells of lymphoid tissue and lymphocyte in any of their developmental stages. Lymphomas are divided into two main categories: Hodgkin's lymphoma (HL) and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL). To diagnose HL and NHL, the standard and final method is biopsy, which is mainly performed lymph node excision. However, this method requires hospitalization, surgery and anesthesia, which is costly for the patient and has complications. Another method for diagnosing is core needle biopsy. This method is a local and outpatient method under ultrasound guidance and can be performed faster and without the need for surgery and anesthesia. Studies on the diagnostic value of this method are very limited and contradictory. Accordingly, in this study, we examined the histopathological and immunohistochemical (IHC) test in lymph node core needle biopsy samples of HL and NHL under ultrasound guide. Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional descriptive study, 49 patients with HL and NHL lymphoma and patients with reactive lymph node who underwent core needle- biopsy with ultrasound guide in Tabriz hospitals during the last three years and their slides and blocks exist in pathology department was re-examined microscopically. If IHC staining was performed previously, it was noted, and if it incomplete, the rest of the staining was performed. Histochemical and IHC results were noted and definitive diagnosis was made by IHC staining. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS software version 19. Results: In this study, the sex of patients included 67.3% female and 32.7% male. The mean age of patients was 44.67 ±19.40. There was no significant difference between the groups in terms of gender and age (P <0.05). Of the 49 patients studied, 61.2% were diagnosed with HL, 34.7% were diagnosed with NHL and 4% were cases with reactive lymph node. In HL patients, 66.7% were female and 33.3% were male. In the NHL group, 70.6% of cases were female and 29.4% were male. In patients with reactive lymph nodes, 50% of cases were women and 50% were men. In HL lymphoma group, 86.6% were adults and 13.4% were children. In the group of NHL and reactive lymph nodes, 100% of the patients were adults.en_US
