Nanoparticles have received much attention thanks to their extensive applications in various biological, pharmaceutical, and medical fields. Using this technology in the drug delivery system to improve therapeutic effects and reduce the toxicity of pharmaceutical forms has been the subject of studies for more than 20 years(2, 4). Background and Aim: S.leriifolia benth plant belongs to the Lamiaceae family. The present study aims to prepare and evaluate the antibacterial effects of nanoparticles containing the S.leriifolia plant extract. Methods: To examine the antimicrobial properties of S.leriifolia plant extract nanoparticles, we first grind the dry powder of the plant. After extracting and crushing the particles at nano dimensions, we load them inside the solid lipid nanoparticles. Then, the characterization tests, including particle size, zeta potential, morphological examination, calculation of the amount of drug loaded, and drug leakage, were performed, and necessary tests were performed to determine the antimicrobial effects of nanoparticles. Results: The particle size was obtained at 70 to 800 nm depending on the type of lipid, surfactant and co-surfactant used to prepare lipid nanoparticles. Examining the antimicrobial properties of the pure extract of S.leriifolia and lipid nanoparticles in-vitro showed that the lipid nanoparticles improve the antimicrobial effect of this plant extract on S.aureus. Also, formulating this extract with lipid nanoparticles can slow down the extract's release from the dialysis membrane in vitro. Conclusion: A suitable particle size can be obtained by optimizing the materials used for preparing lipid nanoparticles. Preparing lipid nanoparticles improves the antimicrobial properties of this plant extract on S.aureus.en_US
