Comparison of Crestal Bone Loss between Implant Supported Splinted and Non-Splinted Crowns in Maxilla in Patients Treated in Implant Department of Tabriz Dentistry Faculty from 2017 to 2022

Abstract

The aim of this study is to compare crestal bone loss between splinted and non-splinted implant-supported crowns in the upper jaw. Materials and methods: Two groups of 31 patients (62 patients in total) treated in the Department of Dental Implants and Dental Prosthetics in the Tabriz Faculty of Dentistry from 2017 to 2021 were selected based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. In one group, patients with splinted crowns and in the other group patients with non-splinted crowns were placed. In both groups, clinical examinations were performed and parallel periapical radiographs were taken of the implants. Information was recorded and data were analyzed statistically. To investigate the difference between the two study groups, independent t-test was used for quantitative variables, and Fisher's exact and chi-square tests were used for qualitative variables. Linear regression analysis was used to investigate the influencing factors on the amount of crestal bone resorption. All analyzes were done using SPSS.26 software. Results: There is no significant difference in peri-implant bone loss between the two splinted and non-splinted groups. Discussion and conclusion:Peri-implant bone loss in splinted and non-splinted prostheses in the upper jaw does not differ from each other. Clinicians can use both types of treatment plans according to the patient's condition.
