Burn injuries provide a favorable environment for skin infections by removing the skin defense barrier and disrupting the local defense of the host. Pseudomonas aeruginosa is reported to be one of the most important causes of nosocomial infections in burn patients. Pseudomonas aeruginosa, as a common nosocomial pathogen, is involved in a wide range of infections, from urinary tract infections to bacteremia. This study aimed to evaluate the frequency of ceftazidime resistance in Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates in the burn ward of Sina Hospital. Materials and Methods: Data on antibiogram results of Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates were extracted from the records of burn patients in Sina Hospital and also by referring to the patients' clinical records, other information such as age, sex and sample location were extracted and collected by pre-designed data collection. Then the extracted information was analyzed and evaluated using SPSS software version 21. Results: In the present study, a total of 328 samples (60% male and 40% female) were taken. Of these, 82 samples (25%) were related to Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates, of which 70 cases (85.3%) were related to wound culture and 12 cases (14.7%) were related to blood sample culture. Ceftazidime resistance was present in 60 samples (73.2%). There was also multidrug resistance to antibiotics among Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains in 52 samples (63.4%). Most ceftazidime-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates were sampled from the wound of 56 (93.3%) patients, which was significantly higher than other sampling sites (p = 0.03). There was also no statistically significant relationship between ceftazidime resistance and age, sex, and burn ward (children, women, and men) (p <0.05).en_US
