Evaluating the effect of chronic administration of aerial parts hydroalcoholic full extract of Centaurea albonitens on morphine withdrawal syndrome in male rats.Introduction: Opioids are a class of medicines that interact with opioid receptors to provide analgesic effects. The use of opioid analgesics is limited due to some problems such as tolerance, dependence, and addiction. It has been shown that the immune and inflammatory systems play key roles in morphine dependence. a natural plant Centaurea albonitens is a genus of medicinal herbaceous plants found in East Azerbaijan province. it has important anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects So it would probably be able to reduce morphine withdrawal signs..Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of chronic administration of C. albonitens methanol extract in the development of morphine withdrawal syndrome in male rats.Method: Methanolic extract of C. albonitens shoot were prepared. After examining the composition of the extract, male wistar rats were divided into six groups randomly, including: morphine + saline , saline + saline, and C. albonitens (50,100,200mg/kg) + morphine and extract 200mg/kg + saline. The rats were rendered morphine-dependent by injection of additive doses of morphine subcutaneously for 9-days. On the 9th day, after the last dose of morphine, naloxone (4 mg/kg i.p) was injected. Withdrawal behaviors were evaluated for 30 minutes. Data were analyzed with one-way ANOVA and Tukey past-test, p values less than 0.05 were considered significant. The blood samples were then taken to measure MDA and TAC.Results: The results showed that C. albonitens could reduce morphine withdrawal syndrome and total withdrawal score (TWS). I.P injection of C. albonitens significantly reduced the TWS in comparison the morphine-saline treated group .(200 mg/kg) of the extract with (p<0.01) significantly reduced TWS. MDA level was also reduced by 100 mg/kg and 200 mg/kg of C. albonitens . TAC level was also increased by 200 mg/kg of C. albonitens .Conclusion: Based on these findings, the total hydroalcoholic extract of C. albonitens plant improved the dependence symptoms caused by morphine withdrawal in animals.en_US
