Differences in the incidence and distribution of risk factors between men and women can be justified only by considering genetics, geography and different lifestyles in different regions. This wide variance indicates the need for more regional studies; therefore, considering this necessity and considering that the Azar cohort is one of the cohort studies started in the country, which is planned to better determine the differences and similarities of diseases with other populations, we decided to use the data. To determine the epidemiology of metabolic syndrome in this population in the enrollment phase of this cohort. Materials and Methods: This study was a cross sectional study that was conducted during 1399 by reviewing the files registered in the Azar cohort (14906 cases) in Tabriz University of Medical Sciences. Necessary information from patient’s records regarding the prevalence of metabolic syndrome by reviewing the results of fasting blood glucose tests, lipid profile in the relevant forms and their information for review Correlation with demographic variables was used. Relevant data were entered in SPSS statistical software and analyzed by descriptive and inferential statistical tests at a significance level of less than P = 0.05. Results: The prevalence of metabolic syndrome in this study was 34%; in the univariate analysis low physical activity (P = 0.001), smoking history (P = 0.001), female gender, history of cardiovascular disease (P = 0.001) and pregnancies more than 4 were predictors of metabolic syndrome. Also in multivariate analysis low physical activity, smoking history, current smoking, and history of cardiovascular disease were predictors of metabolic syndrome.en_US
