dc.description.abstractMagnesium (Mg) - Selenium (se) - Zinc (zn) - Manganese (Mn) - Copper (Copper) are present in the defense mechanisms of antioxidants in the cells involved. And Cu and the effect of antioxidant defense mechanisms in children with type 1 diabetes mellitus and their siblings. Mg antioxidant mechanism is associated with glutathione synthesis. Materials and Methods: After obtaining written consent and accurate measurement of height and weight with Seca height and weight meter, the information form for patients is completed after 12 hours of fasting intravenous blood sample in the laboratory of the patient and serum magnesium and HbAIC levels every three months. It was performed routinely for patients and is available in their medical records and the average of these values was calculated. Written consent was obtained from the control group, after recording height and weight and completing the blood collection information collection form to measure serum magnesium levels. Results: Magnesium levels in diabetic childerns were significantly lower than magnesium levels in healthy children. Pearson test was used to evaluate the relationship between magnesium levels and HbA1C levels. Increased HbA1C decreased serum magnesium levels, which was statistically significant. No significant relationship was found between the duration of diabetes in diabetic children and magnesium levels. There was a significant relationship between serum magnesium level and glycemic control in children with type 1 diabetes.en_US
