dc.description.abstract | Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common persistent cardiac arrhythmia and its prevalence increases with age. These people have 5 times more strokes than people without AF. In Middle Eastern countries, including Iran, there are few studies on the characteristics of patients with atrial fibrillation and the prevalence or incidence of this disease and how to treat it. The heart center of Shahid Madani in Tabriz was performed.
Methods: In this cross-sectional study, the first referral of patients with untreated atrial fibrillation to the emergency department of Shahid Madani Heart Center in Tabriz in 1400 was performed by frequency counting method, personal characteristics and hospital inpatient. Data were collected using a researcher-made checklist and the results were analyzed by descriptive statistical tests.
Results: The mean ± standard age deviation of 159 patients was 68 + 17.12 years. Also, body mass index of the studied patients was 27.16 + 4.95. Of the patients studied, 51.6% were male (82 patients) and 48.4% (77 patients) were female. 112 patients (70.4%) had a history of hypertension, 38 patients (23.9%) had a history of smoking, 32 patients (20.1%) had a history of diabetes, 19 patients (11.9%) had a history of obesity and 15 patients (9.4%) had a history of heart disease. The mean of the standard deviation of patients's creatinine, glucose, hematocrit and TSH (1.51. 1.34), (36.06 ± 103.72), (7.12 ± 46.67), (1.54 ± 2.13) are, respectively. The mean left ventricular EF was 13.03 4 41.75 and the mean left ventricular diastolic size was 4.61 ± 1.27 and the left atrium size was 3.92 ± 0.89. The mean ventricular rate of patients was 130.89 + 22.55. The prevalence of hypertension, LVH, cardiomyopathy, right ventricular failure and valvular disease in the studied patients were approximately 0.6%, 9.4%, 2.5%, 10.1% and 79.9%, respectively. . The most common type of valvular disease was MR ++ with a frequency of 59.8% among patients with valvular disease. Digoxin was prescribed in the emergency department for 72.3% of patients and the heart rate of patients with emergency discharge was 93.1% of the AF type. . Also, 78% of patients were discharged by referral to a cardiologist. The frequency of drugs prescribed to patients during hospitalization showed that digoxin was used for 5.7%, ampodarone for 2.5% and beta-blocker for 13.8%. Electric cardioversion was also performed for 3.1%. Examination of patients's status at the time of discharge showed that 13.8% of patients had died. Also 51.7% of patients had AF rhythm and 48.3% of them had sinus rhythm. None of the patients had a stroke in the ward or stroke at the time of admission. Also, 13.8% of patients had angiography. | en_US |
