dc.description.abstractThe aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the consequences of early IVH (bleeding in less than one week) and late (bleeding in more than one week) as well as the characteristics before and around birth in these infants.Methods and Materials: This study was a cross-sectional study of all neonates with cerebral hemorrhage and gestational age less than 37 weeks who were admitted to Al-Zahra Children's Hospital for two years. After performing cranial ultrasound in 3 to 5 days at the beginning of birth and at the end of 1 month, which is routinely performed in premature infants, if bleeding is confirmed, the ultrasound was repeated weekly to determine the degree of bleeding, which was performed by a radiologist. In the sixth and twelfth months of life, the studied infants were followed up for developmental disorders (according to the ASQ form), seizures and hydrocephalus.Results: In this study, 40 infants with IVH were studied, of which 4 infants died during the study, all of whom were infants with premature bleeding. The mean gestational age of newborns was 30.33 ± 2.34 weeks and their mean birth weight was 1461.39 ± 546.55 g. The Apgar score was calculated from 10 and the mean score for these infants was 5.53 ±1.89. The neonates were hospitalized for an average of 34 to 35 days (34.61 ±22.06). The mean ASQ score for them was 44.72 ± 9.85. 16 infants (44.44%) had developmental problems at 6 months and 9 infants (25%) had developmental problems at 12 months. 31 infants (86.1%) had IVH (intraventricular hemorrhage) in the first week and 5 infants (13.9%) in the second week.Between the two groups of infants with early and late IVH in terms of mean gestational age (P value = 0.563), singleton / twin (P value = 0.544), mean birth Apgar score (P value = 0.399) ), Mean neonatal weight (P value = 0.208), type of delivery (P value = 0.646), gender (P value = 0.634), there was no significant difference. Also in the follow-up of patients in two groups of infants with early and late IVH in terms of hydrocephalus (P value = 1), pneumothorax (P value = 1), surfactant intake (P value = 1), seizures (P value =0.555), mean length of hospital stay (P value = 0.205), mean ASQ score at 6 months (P value = 0.764), mean ASQ score at 12 months (P value = 0.726) and number of patients There was no significant difference in developmental disorder at 6 months (P value = 0.375) and 12 months (P value = 0.175).en_US
