Evaluation of medium-term outcome of total hip arthroplasty by age category
Abstract
There is little data today on the effects of age and sex on the outcome of THA because they are often measured and evaluated in combination with knee arthroplasty. The only finding they emphasize is that women will be less functional .
Contrary to expectations, some studies have found that older patients with THA had a better quality of life than younger patients .
Due to the fact that several factors can affect the postoperative complications of THA and the results after this operation in the future, so the results of various studies are different and there is still no finding that can be agreed upon. We may arrange this study with the aim of examining the "medium-term outcomes of total hip arthroplasty by age groups on quality of life".
Methods: The study population was all patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty
Sampling method and number of samples Samples will be retrospectively selected from patients who have undergone Total Hip Arthroplasty Surgery at the Shohada hospital in Tabriz during the past five years, and sampling will be done using accessible patients. From the approval of the Ethics and Approval Committee in the Research Council of Tabriz Medical School, the information of all patients undergoing THA surgery during the last 5 years will be collected in Shohada Educational and Medical Center.
This questionnaire will be arranged based on references 1 and 3 that the amount of EQ-5D and EQ VAS 1 will be recorded. This questionnaire consists of two parts.
1; The EQ-5D, which is a Euro QOL questionnaire, includes five questions about mobility, self-care, routine activities, pain / discomfort, anxiety / depression. We used the three-level version. The possible answers indicating magnitude of symptoms included no problems, moderate problems, or extreme problems. Responders’ answers were converted to a score from -0.6 to 1.0, where 1.0 was the best possible HRQoL. These answers to the relevant questions are translated numerically based on the techniques and methods provided by the Euro QOL group. One hundred points of EQ VAS, imagine that zero will be the worst possible condition and one hundred the best health condition possible. Patients demographic information will also be recorded.
Results: In this study, no statistically significant difference was observed between the studied age groups. Compared with the improvement in the conditions of the studied groups, the points of EQ-5D and EQ VAS point before THA was lower than expected, up to five years after THA. The rate of improvement in terms of EQ-5D and EQ VAS did not differ significantly between the age decades of third to ninth and improved similarly.
