dc.description.abstract | Breast cancer is the most common malignancy and the leading cause of cancer mortality in women. The importance of early detection of breast cancer can also be used in health system decisions to select cost-effective methods and prevent resource wastage. Therefore, the present study investigated the diagnostic power of targeted ultrasound as a cheaper and faster method than MR Mamography (MRM) in diagnosing breast lesions and their types.
Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed on 125 women with abnormal breast findings who had referred to the Radiology Clinic of Imam Reza (AS) Educational and Medical Center in Tabriz during the second half of 2018 for MRM. First, all women underwent MRM and then a targeted ultrasound was performed for each of them. Finally, MRM was considered as a reassuring diagnostic method and the results of targeted ultrasound were compared with the results. Descriptive statistics, logistic regression and ROC Curve were used to determine positive and negative predictive values, as well as to compare the results.
Results: The positive predictive value of targeted ultrasound in the diagnosis of suspected malignant / malignant breast masses was calculated as 74.6%; The results of logistic regression indicated that targeted ultrasound could be an alternative method for MRM in diagnosing the type of breast masses regarding the suspected of being malignant / malignant (P-value <0.05). Also, the positive predictive value of targeted ultrasound in observing mass enhancement breast masses was equal to 90% and its negative predictive value in not observing non-mass enhancement breast masses was calculated to be 68.6%; The results of the ROC curve introduced that targeted ultrasound could be a method to provide a good prognosis for Mass or Non-Mass Enhancement of breast masses (AUC = 0.793 and P-value <0.05). | en_US |
