Exposure to low-frequency electromagnetic fields affects the differentiation and proliferation of pulp-derived mesenchymal stem cells (DP-MSCs). Low frequency electromagnetic field is a non-invasive field that can improve pulp health. But the parameters and mechanisms of action of these fields are not yet known. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of electromagnetic fields on the differentiation of permanent tooth pulp stem cells into odontoblasts. Material and methods: Electromagnetic waves were generated by a magnetic field generator to differentiate tooth pulp stem cells. The effect of these waves with intensity of 0.5 and 1 mT and frequency of 50 Hz on the proliferation of DP-MSCs at 20 and 40 minutes per day for 21 days was investigated. MTT method was used to determine the growth and proliferation of DPSCs and finally the data were analyzed by ANOVA (one way ANOVA) statistical method. Result: Survival in all irradiated groups except in the 40 min group was 1MT significantly higher than the control group (P <0.05). Cell survival was significantly higher in the radiation group for 20 minutes with an intensity of 0.5 mT than the other groups. In general, survival rates were recorded as MT ≥20, 1MT≥ 40, 0.5 MT≥ 40, 1 MT, 20, 0.5, respectively. Thus, according to the results, ELF-EMF increases cell survival except for one group (40min, 1MT), although the exact and effective mechanisms in this process are still unclear. Conclusion: Our results showed that electromagnetic fields have a positive and effective effect on cell growth and survival, so with this background, we can hope that in the future, using electromagnetic fields, damaged and lost parts of the pulp.
