The predictive value of the Kampala Trauma Score in the outcome of multi-trauma patient compared to Injury Severity Score
Abstract
Triage and prediction among multiple trauma patients are useful for treating physicians, especially those with limited resources. The use of injury severity scoring systems in evaluating and benchmarking the results as well as an objective comparison of the trauma system is essential.
Materials and Methods: Multiple trauma patients who were admitted to the emergency part of Imam Reza Hospital. First, Kampala Trauma Score (new injury scoring system) and ISS was calculated for patients. Finally, the patient's outcome was evaluated. The KTS and ISS score was calculated based on the relevant standard tables (attached in the abstract of the plan) and the method of collecting them was done by a checklist.
Results: In the present study, 381 patients were studied with a mean age of 35.34 ± 19.73. The ISS average was 12.65 ± 9.28 and the KTS average was 13.43 ± 1.97. According to the results, the level below the chart for predicting patient outcome in KTS was 0.932. Kapala Trauma Score has a sensitivity of 0.96% and a specificity of 0.36% in predicting patient outcome. Also, the level below the chart for predicting the outcome of trauma patients in the ISS was equal to 0.899. Also, the sensitivity was 92.3% and the specificity was 22.2%. The positive predictive value was 19.6% and the negative predictive value was 93.3%.
